Zitto Zitto Taverna opened at 593 College Street, in the former home of Trattoria Giancarlo, and is owned by the husband and wife team behind Sotto Voce Wine & Pasta Bar.

Looking around, the walls are covered with family photos – real family photos of Anita and Alan’s families. Each picture tells a story, and together they create that feeling of being at home.

The restaurant boasts a large indoor dining space, adorned with a completely homely feel. Operated by husband and wife team Anita and Alan Thomson, the establishment is meant to make customers feel like they’re in Italy. It is located next to Sotto Voce Wine & Pasta Bar and is described as Sotto’s “big sister”.
The kitchen is helmed by Sicilian chef Alessandro Militello and the menu features a variety of grilled dishes and delicacies. This includes a selection of meats and pastas, all of which offer the true flavours of Italy. Along with meat, customers can also find items with an emphasis on seafood, like grilled Mediterranean sea bass, sardines, shrimp and more.

Industry vets Anita Thomson and her partner in life and business Alan made quick work of the space, which was once home to the College Street institution Trattoria Giancarlo which closed after a remarkable run of over thirty years. Playing on the space’s hidden corners and floor to ceiling wine walls, Anita and her team embraced the angles and added some heritage features, like the dining room wall adorned with family photos of both her and Alan’s Italian upbringing.
